\nWhile I missed seeing everyone in person at this year’s AGM, it was nice to connect with<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>new faces and familiar faces of the people attended the meeting. In<\/span>\u00a0this issue I\u2019d like to<\/span>\u00a0describe\u00a0<\/span>a summary of\u00a0<\/span>the counsellors\u2019 report\u00a0<\/span>that I presented in the AGM.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>[ Current trend ]\u00a0<\/strong>
\nWhile the total number of counselling service users in 2019 was almost same as the <\/span>number in 2018,\u00a0<\/span>the cases of senior clients and cases related to domestic violence<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>further increased compared to the previous years. Both of these types of cases<\/span>\u00a0tend to take a substantial amount of time and various types of <\/span>intensive support<\/span>.<\/span>
\n\u00a0<\/span>[ Uniqueness of JSS ]\u00a0<\/strong>
\nProfessional mental health support and counselling in Japanese language is quite limited in Toronto, GTA or Ontario. <\/span>\u00a0<\/span>There are a couple of\u00a0<\/span>Japanese<\/span>\u00a0speaking clinical psychologists in GTA<\/span>\u00a0and<\/span>\u00a0a couple of registered psychotherapists working in private clinics<\/span>\u00a0in the GTA<\/span>. However, to my knowledge<\/span>, there is no J<\/span>apanese<\/span>\u00a0speaking psychiatrist in GTA.<\/span>\u00a0In terms of agencies,\u00a0<\/span>JSS is the only non-profit charitable agency offering professional counselling\/psychotherapy services in Japanese in Ontario. Although Vancouver has a larger Japanese population, there does<\/span>\u00a0no<\/span>t seem to be an agency like JSS. So<\/span>,<\/span>\u00a0it is quite possible\u00a0<\/span>that\u00a0<\/span>there is no other agency like JSS even in Canada.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
