The<\/span>\u00a0Annual General Meeting o<\/span>f Japan<\/span>e<\/span>se Social Ser<\/span>vices was held on August 25, 2020. This annual meeting is usually held in June, but\u00a0<\/span>due to the pandemic<\/span>, it was postponed once and was held in a virtual format for the first time<\/span>. Despite the circumstances, we are happy to report that the meeting proceeded smoothly, with more attende<\/span>es than in<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>recent years<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nAt the AGM, we brought updates\u00a0<\/span>and reports from\u00a0<\/span>the staff team on our counselling services<\/span>, programs, and volunteer activities and contributions. These are detailed in separate articles in this newsletter issue.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nThe board reported, among other topics about t<\/span>he IT arrangements made to transition<\/span>\u00a0staff to work from home<\/span>\u00a0and other progress\u00a0<\/span>on our website and<\/span>\u00a0other communication tools, our\u00a0<\/span>strategic planning process for the upcoming years, as well board membership updates.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>
\nAlso included in the board presentation was the appointment of\u00a0<\/span>Mr<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Tokugi<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Suyama<\/span>\u00a0to the position of honorary board member<\/span>\u00a0of the Japanese Social Services. At age 94,\u00a0<\/span>Mr<\/span>\u00a0<\/span>Suyama<\/span> has been an active member of the Japanese Canadian community and has supported JSS since its inception<\/span>. His dedication\u00a0<\/span>as<\/span>\u00a0a board member and in various areas including programs and fundraising<\/span>\u00a0was invaluable in\u00a0<\/span>allowing us to support the Japanese immigrant <\/span>and Japanese Canadian communities across Ontario<\/span>.\u00a0<\/span>We are sincerely grateful for his\u00a0<\/span>contributions ov<\/span>er the past decades.\u00a0<\/span>
