The first session of this month of our e-Learning seminar series hosted by\u00a0Momiji Health Care Society<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Japanese Social Services<\/a>\u00a0(JSS), joined by\u00a0Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care\u00a0<\/a>to learn about fraud and scam, inviting Toronto Police Services. *Held in English with Japanese description.<\/strong><\/p>\n

What is this session about?<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Have you received emails or calls telling you that you won a lottery, or that you have an outstanding tax payment? You may think these are well-known tricks and you would not fall for these scams. But the world of frauds is deep and serious, the tricks have become more sophisticated to the point that you only realize after you were tricked. Emails have been looking just like the ones you regularly receive from your local pharmacy chain, or the callers threaten to arrest you if you don\u2019t listen.<\/p>\n

This year so far in Canada (as of August 31, 2022), more than 61,000 cases has been reported, and 38,812 individuals have become victims\u00a0of fraud with total $332.7M (Canadian Anti-fraud Centre<\/a>, Aug 2022). You can even browse more than 70 different types of scam tricks on the CAFC website, and the list is just part of everything that\u2019s been happening. Anyone can be targeted and victimized\u2013 we have to smart up ourselves as the scammers a<\/span>re always trying to find better ways to trick us.<\/span><\/p>\n

Come and join us to learn about some of the common frauds and scams from Toronto Police Services, to protect yourself and people around you, and what to do when you encounter a fraud or are victimized.<\/p>\n
