1 hour online session (Zoom)\u00a0 to learn about basic tech knowledge, will be co-provided by Momiji Health Care Society<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Japanese Social Services<\/a> (JSS). *Held in English and Japanese<\/p>\n

What is this session about?<\/h2>\n

This session, you will learn a general overview of common issues you may come across when using smartphones or computer, as well as some key terminologies to know. Time permitting, we may be able to address some more specific topics as well.<\/p>\n

This is a part of \u201cSeniors, IT and Beyond (SIB)\u201d project by Momiji Health Care Society. Throughout the pandemic, many of the seniors in the community have been isolated from their family and others without means to communicate. Some were able to stay in touch through phone calling or using their computers, but many were limited due to unfamiliarity with technology. Through the ongoing, SIB project, Momiji is hoping to teach seniors at Momiji, and within the community, about basic tech knowledge. We also offer one on one sessions, physical exercise and social events as part of the \u201cSeniors, IT and Beyond\u201d project so please check out Momiji\u2019s website\/social media, it is free to join and running until the end of March! Eventually, we will cover more topics through the group program as time goes on, so please join us for those sessions as well!<\/p>\n

About our Guest Speaker<\/h2>\n

Isabelle Yamamoto (Momiji Health Care Society)<\/h4>\n

Isabelle Yamamoto is recent graduate from the University of Ottawa in Psychology and Linguistics. Currently working towards being a speech and language pathologist. Previously a summer student at Momiji for the term of 2022, has been given the opportunity to assist with the \u201cSeniors, IT and Beyond\u201d project at Momiji, thanks to funding from the Government of Ontario\u2019s Seniors Community Grant. As a fourth generation Japanese-Canadian, she is passionate about staying active in the Japanese Canadian community and supporting its elders.<\/p>\n

How to Attend<\/h2>\n

Anyone interested can attend but pre-registration required. Click the registration button below, and fill and submit it by two days before the session date (Mon, Dec 5). If you have difficulty using online registration system, feel free to contact the hosting agency.<\/p>\n

2.\u00a0Your Zoom display name should be recognizable to the host<\/h4>\n

Upon joining, please display your name on Zoom in ways we recognize that you registered. For example, instead of using nicknames or initials, include your first and\/or last (e.g. Hanako Y, H. Yamada, Hanako Yamada) . We may not be able to allow you to enter for security purposes if we can\u2019t recognize your name. We\u2019ll show you how to change the display name 5 minutes before the session start.<\/p>\n
