This month of our e-Learning seminar series hosted by Momiji Health Care Society and Japanese Social Services (JSS) is to learn about forest bathing (Shinrin-yoku). *Held in English
What is this session about?
In l982 Forest bathing was deemed an official wellness practice in Japan and by 2017 was included in clinical practice in Japan to support people’s physical, emotional and mental wellness. The health benefits of Forest Bathing are now recognized and practiced globally. In this class you will learn:
- The specific health benefits of spending time in nature
- The science behind how the forest and being in nature is able to support our health
- How to practice Forest Bathing in nature outdoors and how to bring nature inside
- Resources are provided to learn more

About our Guest Speaker
Guest Speaker : Dona Hird (Coordinator, Self-Management Central East)
Dona has been working as a Coordinator with the Self-Management Program Central East for over 10 years. As Coordinator and Master Trainer for the Chronic Disease Self-Management and Powerful Tools for Caregivers workshops, Dona empowers people with chronic conditions to explore and adopt healthy lifestyle behaviours. Dona loves all aspects of nature, music and food.
Self-Management Program Central East
The Self-Management Program Central East, offers FREE evidence-based workshops for adults and their caregivers who are living with or at risk of developing a chronic condition, chronic pain or diabetes. These six-week interactive workshops provide participants with the tools they need to live well and manage their condition, and are offered in person, virtually, online, or by telephone in Central East Ontario. A six-week workshop specifically designed for caregivers called Powerful Tools for Caregivers is also available. In addition to the six week workshops, The Self-Management Program Central East provides 1-1.5 hour single session workshops that address a variety of health and wellness topics.
How to Attend
Anyone interested can attend but pre-registration required. Click the registration button below, and fill and submit it by two days before the session date (Mon, May 24). If you have difficulty using online registration system, feel free to contact the hosting agency.

Those who registered, will receive an invitation email with the Zoom link and ID/Passcode, by a day before the session date from the hosting organizations. Check your junk box if you can’t find it in your inbox – Email us if you don’t see it anywhere.

1. Auto-email (to confirm what you filled) right after registration
You will receive a confirmation email from the system right after you “Submit” your form (this receipt does not contain the Zoom URL). Make sure to type correct email of yours. If you don’t see it, check your junk folder first, then contact JSS / Momiji.
2. Your Zoom display name should be recognizable to the host
Upon joining, please display your name on Zoom in ways we recognize that you registered. For example, instead of using nicknames or initials, include your first and/or last (e.g. Hanako Y, H. Yamada, Hanako Yamada) . We may not be able to allow you to enter for security purposes if we can’t recognize your name. We’ll show you how to change the display name 5 minutes before the session start.

**Please note that we most likely can’t help you connecting Zoom on the day of the seminar due to limited staffing. We encourage you to book us for the separate practice prior to the seminar date.
