Momiji / JSS / Yee Hong Centre

Wed. June 11, 2025, 3:00 – 4:15 pm  EDT

(English & Japanese)

The first session of June of our e-Learning seminar series hosted by Momiji Health Care Society and Japanese Social Services (JSS), joined by Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care to learn about health literacy. *Held in English and Japanese

What is this session about?

Do you know what “health literacy” is?

It refers to the capacity to obtain, correctly understand, and use information necessary for your own health. In today’s world, where health information is abundant, it’s not easy to find health information that suits you and use it properly.

This seminar introduces practical tips you can use right away, including how to improve your health literacy, how to evaluate health information, and how to improve your communication with healthcare professionals and family members.

About our Guest Speaker

Guest speaker: Yukari Seko, Ph.D. (Associate Professor, Toronto Metropolitan University)

Dr. Yukari Seko is an Associate Professor at School of Professional Communication, Toronto Metropolitan University (formerly Ryerson University), and a board member and long-term volunteer of Japanese Social Services. Her research explores a wide array of health communication topics, including mental health, migration and food, and professional health communication. She is currently researching culturally appropriate food and healthy ageing of immigrant seniors and end-of-life communication.
