e-Learning : Finding Joy and Humour in Caregiving – Part 1

The first session of November of our e-Learning seminar series hosted by Momiji Health Care Society and Japanese Social Services (JSS), joined by Yee Hong Centre for Geriatric Care  is the Caregiving Seminar, the first of a two-part series. In this session, participants will explore ideas for finding joy in the caregiving journey.

What is this session about?

This educational workshop is for care partners of individuals living with dementia with a focus on looking at the lighter side of caregiving.

Join us for the first session of this two-part series, where care partners will begin to explore how to find joy in the caregiving journey. This session will focus on looking beyond the diagnosis and recognizing everyday moments of lightness, connection, and meaning.

Learning Objectives for the Two-Part Series:

  • Explore looking and living beyond the diagnosis.
  • Create opportunities for joy and look at the lighter side of caregiving
  • Evaluate the benefits of humour and having a positive outlook
  • Assess the strategies and approaches for incorporating joy and humour into caregiving

About our Guest Speaker

Tsvetty Kolarova (RSW/BSW), Caregiver Education Coordinator

Tsvetty (she/her) is a Registered Social Worker at the Alzheimer Society of Toronto (AST) in the role of Caregiver Education Coordinator. She delivers various education sessions to caregivers in order to raise awareness on Alzheimer’s disease and other related dementias, as well as other dementia topics relevant to caregivers. Prior to working at AST, Tsvetty has worked with many diverse populations over her 6+ years in the field, including seniors, newcomers, people with disabilities, families and children, underemployed communities, students, people with mental heatlh and/or substance abuse, and people exiting homelessness. She has provided services including counselling, project development and coordination, facilitation of educational workshops, references and referrals, and career counselling. Having been a caregiver to her own grandmother with dementia, Tsvetty has a special connection to working with those impacted by dementia and is passionate about providing education, support, and a safe space for caregivers.

What is Alzheimer Society Toronto?

The Alzheimer Society of Toronto is a registered charity whose mission is to alleviate the personal and social consequences of Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias and to promote research. The society does this by providing information, education and support to the general public, people living with dementia and their caregivers and health care professionals.

How to Attend

Anyone interested can attend but pre-registration required. Click the registration button below, and fill and submit it before the session date. If you have difficulty using online registration system, feel free to contact the hosting agency.

Those who registered, will receive an invitation email with the Zoom link and ID/Passcode, by a day before the session date from the hosting organizations. Check your junk box if you can’t find it in your inbox – Email us if you don’t see it anywhere.

【Caution!】

1. Auto-email (to confirm what you filled) right after registration

You will receive a confirmation email from the system right after you “Submit” your form (this receipt does not contain the Zoom URL). Make sure to type correct email of yours. If you don’t see it, check your junk folder first, then contact JSS / Momiji.

2. Your Zoom display name should be recognizable to the host

Upon joining, please display your name on Zoom in ways we recognize that you registered. For example, instead of using nicknames or initials, include your first and/or last (e.g. Hanako Y, H. Yamada, Hanako Yamada) . We may not be able to allow you to enter for security purposes if we can’t recognize your name. We’ll show you how to change the display name 5 minutes before the session start.
