e-Learning : Enhancing Mind and Body! Discovering New Hobbies

Presented by
Momiji / JSS

Wed. February 26th, 2025, 3:00 – 4:15 pm EST

(English with Japanese Interpretation)

This month of our e-Learning seminar series hosted by Momiji Health Care Society and Japanese Social Services (JSS) is to explore new hobbies. Join us and find a new hobby through this seminar!

*Held in English with Japanese Interpretation

What is this session about?

The first part of the seminar is about journaling (In Japanese, it is also referred to as “writing meditation”). Using journalism’s five W’s—Who, What, Where, When, and Why—the process of transforming our memories and experiences into readable, shareable content, as well as its health benefits, will be explained. We are all unique, and our personal set of memories makes us what we are. Let’s get them out there so we can relive them and/or share them with family and friends.

In the second part of the seminar, we will learn about Nordic Pole Walking, an exercise that involves using specially designed poles to engage the entire body. We will explore the benefits of pole walking, the equipment needed, and introduce available programs you can join.

About our Guest Speaker

Guest Speaker 1:  Brian Mahoney

Brian is a writer/photographer in Toronto. Moving from a degree in film and photography, Brian branched off into sales and design plus freelance writing work for an American computer magazine’s website. Now retired, he keeps busy with volunteer work at Momiji, writing his memoirs and the occasional poem plus keeping up with his social media accounts.

From Brian: Being widowed and retired has left me with plenty of free time. To fill those hours, I’m back to writing articles on my personal websites as well as volunteering at Momiji. In the near future, I will resurrect my podcast, too. Keeping physically active helps me stay focused.

Guest Speaker 2:  Chris Sutarno(Kinesiologist, CommunitiCare Health)
