JSS Challenge 2024 Report

On Sunday, June 9, 2024, we held the 4th JSS Challenge. The JSS Challenge is a walkathon event that started in 2021, aiming to raise awareness about JSS activities among the Japanese community around the GTA and supporting JSS through fundraising.

This year, despite the unfortunate rain, 35 people took on the challenge of walking and running, covering 156.78 km. Four runners each completed 10 km in one hour.

We were very honored to have the attendance of Consul-General Matsunaga and his wife, and Consul-General Matsunaga gave a warm speech supporting JSS activities during the light refreshments and social gathering.

Some participants walked individually or in groups before and after the event. Notably, a group of 16 members from the Toronto Japanese Gospel Church walked a total of 108.8 km the day before the event.

In total, 52 participants walked and ran a combined distance of 284.18 km! This greatly exceeds the records of the past three JSS Challenges.

Donations collected before, during, and after the event totaled $8,710, significantly surpassing our goal of $5,000.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported the JSS Challenge, especially our main sponsors, Mr. Marty Kobayashi, Mr. Tak Yoshida, and the members of the Toronto Japanese Gospel Church.

The donations will be used for the general operations of JSS. We are planning another walkathon event this fall. Additionally, we will continue to organize events that strengthen the connections within the Japanese community in Toronto. We look forward to your participation.

Thank you for your continued support of JSS.
