The heat is has eased off and the trees are beginning to change colors. Autumn is the season for marathons!
This fall, JSS will again hold a fundraising walk event, the June Yamamoto Memorial Walk. This year’s event is held jointly with the Volunteer Appreciation Party so that more people can participate. Non-volunteers are welcome to join us for the walk + lunch, or walk only.
We have named this walk event in honor of the late Mrs. Junko (June) Yamamoto, a dedicated JSS volunteer, our friend and supporter. A former JSS board member and an avid supporter of our work, she served as JSS’s first fundraising committee chair and continued to support JSS until her passing. It was also Junko’s idea to hold a fall marathon event for fundraising.
A group walk starting from JCCC will be the main focus of this event. At the same time, we are incorporating an element of a virtual walk that allows each participant to walk anywhere they like at their leisure.
Come walk with us, together and from different locations, so that JSS can serve as many people as possible in this community. we need your support!
Funds raised from this event will be used to enhance our community programs and for general operating expenses of JSS.
Event day Schedule
10:30am ～ 12:00pm
Group walk participants meet at the main entrance of JCCC
One-hour group walk
Virtual participants should each walk for one hour and record the number of kilometers walked.
12:00pm ～ 1:30pm
Lunch and socializing (held jointly with the Volunteer Appreciation Party)
Join JSS staff, board members, and volunteers for a simple lunch and a chat.
1:30pm
June Yamamoto Memorial Walk ends
(Please remain if you are attending the Volunteer Appreciation Party)
Route: 1-hour route starting at JCCC and including the East Don River Trail. There are some inclines along the way. Walking speed will be adjusted according to participants’ abilities.

If you would like lunch, please register as soon as possible. Lunch is free, but if possible, please donate any amount you wish on the day of the event.
Please send your completed pledge sheet to the JSS with donor names and pledge amounts.
If you are planning to join the virtual calls via Zoom (pre-walk and / or post walk celebration), please call JSS at 416-385-9200 or send an email to info@jss.ca in advance. We will send you a Zoom call invite via email.
