Obituary: Mr. Takeo Maekawa, Former President of JSS

We are deeply saddened to announce that Mr. Takeo Maekawa, former President of JSS, passed away on February 28, 2026. 

Mr. Maekawa served as President of JSS from 2004 to 2013. Together with his wife, Teruko, he devoted many years to supporting and strengthening the Japanese Canadian community. In 2012, his contributions through JSS were recognized with the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation. 

Mr. Maekawa will be remembered for his dedicated leadership and his warm and generous spirit. We extend our heartfelt condolences to his family and remember his many contributions to JSS with deep gratitude.
