The 6th Annual JSS Challenge

On June 07, 2026, the JSS Challenge celebrated its sixth year.
Since 2021, this annual walkathon brings together JSS members and supporters from the Japanese Canadian community to support a meaningful cause. This year, 40 participants of all ages joined us to enjoy a walk along the beautiful Don Valley Trail while strengthening community ties.
A group of seven runners, including Consul General Ken Matsunaga, JSS Counsellor Kuge, and Fundraising Committee Chair Amadou, also took part in the event and completed 6km each within one hour, totaling 42 km.
In addition, members of the Toronto Japanese Gospel Church, who have generously participated remotely every year, once again joined us the day before the event. Twelve participants walked a combined total of 39.6 km in support of JSS.
Together, a total of 52 participants, both in person and remotely, completed an impressive 234.74km.
We are delighted to report that donations received before, during, and after the event totaled $27,702, far exceeding our fundraising goal of $5,000. We are deeply grateful for the generosity shown by our community.
Among the many contributions, we would like to extend special appreciation to Mr. Marty Kobayashi, a long-time supporter of JSS, for his generous donation of $20,000. This contribution will help provide counselling services to individuals and families who may otherwise face financial barriers to accessing support.

During the post-event luncheon, Consul General Matsunaga shared warm words of encouragement regarding JSS’s community support initiatives, including services for survivors of domestic violence. Mr. Marty Kobayashi also provided us with a heartfelt message of support.
We would also like to express our sincere appreciation to Ms. Yosh Inoue and Mr. Taku Yoshida for their generous donations, all participants of the walkathon, and to the members of the Toronto Japanese Gospel Church for their ongoing participation and support year after year.
All funds raised through the JSS Challenge will be used to support JSS operations and community programs. We remain committed to strengthening connections within Toronto’s Japanese-speaking community and helping create a community where everyone can live with greater security and support.
Thank you once again for your participation and generosity. We look forward to your continued support in the years to come.
