This is a campaign that JSS has been conducting for more than 20 years to help people at the end of the year. The goal for this event is to deliver gifts collected from the Nikkei community to families who are isolated or in need of help before Christmas and have them a warmer holiday season and a brighter New Year.
Every year from November to early December, collection boxes are set up at Japanese organizations and churches in Toronto to accept gifts such as preservable foods (especially Japanese groceries such as cereals, dried foods, canned foods, etc.), unopened toys, children’s games, winter clothing (used or unused equivalent items such as hats, scarves, gloves, socks, etc. for both children and adults). These items are then sorted according to the composition of each family and delivered directly to each family by JSS volunteers in mid-December. Each year, more than 70 people from about 25 to 30 families receive the warmth of the community.
